9.30- Variability in orthotic outcomes, a Podiatric Laboratory perspective. (David Hallowell) This talk
looks specifically at orthotic design and manufacture methods and how these
impact on outcomes.
10.15 - Optimising orthotic outcomes, a Chartered Physiotherapists perspective. (Gillian Walker)
11.00 - Question and answer session
11.20 - Tea and Coffee
11.40 - Casting for success- Short talk followed by practical session (David Hallowell) Matching
casting methods to the foot and device type with a Demonstration of corrected weight-
bearing and correcting non weight-bearing casting.
12.30 - Lunch
1.15 - Working with the ankle joint, Rocker Orthotics, how they work and what their uses are.
1.35 – Live Patient Session – A review of a typical patient who has been issued with a rocker device.
2.15 – Open discussion.

Speakers
David Hallowell - David has been the Managing Director of Footcare Northern Ireland Ltd for over 20 years. He is a former lecturer in biomechanics and orthotic management at QUB. In 1996 he was the first Podiatrist to introduce 3 dimensional laser foot scanning to the UK. He was the Podiatric Consultant to the Ministry of Defence for 20 years and is the designer of the Ease Forward Ankle Rocker Orthotic and Brace. In the past he has spoken at various Podiatry and Physiotherapy conferences throughout Ireland and the UK.
Gillian Walker - Gillian is a Chartered Physiotherapist from Dublin who has been one of the pioneers of orthotic therapy in Ireland. She specialises in making changes in the musculoskeletal system which allow orthoses to have the greatest potential for success. She has been involved in designing and manufacturing orthoses for 20 years. She has spoken at various conferences in Ireland and the UK and was one of the key speakers at the 2013 British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Conference.
